Alison Pill Calls off Engagement to Jay Baruchel

The wedding is off for good. After a two-year engagement, Alison Pill and Jay Baruchel have broken up. The Canadian stars have called off their engagement and gone their separate ways, Us Weekly confirms.
The This Is the End actor hinted about their split on Twitter Feb. 16. “Alone again, naturally. Heartbroken,” he wrote in a message that he later deleted. “I won't be on twitter for awhile gang. Getting dumped rules.”

Baruchel, 30, and Pill, 27, became engaged in December 2010 after meeting on the set of hockey flick Goon. The twosome had plans to wed in September 2012 in Quebec.
“We're getting married at an ice wine vineyard. Me and the groomsmen will all be wearing kilts!” the Tropic Thunder actor told Us in February 2012. “We'll be welcomed in by uilleann pipers. It will be a very small, 70 person wedding, just friends and family.”

But in an interview with Victoria's Times Colonist last month, Baruchel explained why the wedding never happened. “Unfortunately, we're two busy people who are intrinsically lazy,” he said. “So in our free time, the last thing we want to do is book flights and organize hotel rooms for people.” He added, “But it'll happen at some point.”

Or not at all, as it turns out. On Sunday, March 3, a solo Pill attended the 30th annual PaleyFest for The Newsroom at Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills. Smiling on the carpet, the HBO actress was missing one conspicuous accessory for her photo op: her engagement ring.
Why did the pair decide to split for good? A source tells Us that their long distance relationship became too difficult to manage.

“Working and living in Canada is something that [Baruchel] is very passionate about. He wanted her up there more often, but she really likes Newsroom and the opportunities that are there for her,” the insider explains. “They were doing the long distance [thing] a lot.”
